Hannah Castle is the prison offender manager for Victoria, the partner of Toni, a trans man who was killed by a private French catering company, Sodexo limited nearly a month ago. She’s been grieving, self harming and offered no practical support by the prison, except for 1.50 pound phone credit on her phone that lasts about 10 minutes. the day the death was announced. She has serious mental health disorders and is a prolific self harmer. She’s been told by the officers that Toni, who was meant to be on 15 minute active watches, ie checks, were meant to be made on him every 15 minutes, was not checked for over an hour on the night that she died during the shift change, and that he used that time to hang himself, Hannah Castle told Victoria that her relationship with Toni was toxic, and anyway, they weren’t really together when Tony killed himself.

A probation officer at HMP bronzefield working for Sodexo Limited, has no psychological background and is not qualified to make assertions like this, which could lead to dangerous consequences. But who cares not the Justice charities all wringing their hands in horror because of the two deaths in one week of this dangerous, failing prison. They all get government funding to run pretend contracts pretending to support women in prison.

They’re invested in the status quo, which is to keep people locked up. How can they want to end the cruelty that’s been inflicted on women in the king’s name at public expense? Why would the turkey celebrate Christmas?

Join the Bronzefield Action Group today and help with the View CiC campaign for Sodexo contract at the failing private prison and to be brought back into the public sector. The Scottish Government is prosecuting Sodexo for the unnecessary and avoidable death of a prisoner who had asthma and was not properly protected during covid. They brought Manslaughter charges. They recently lost the contract to run HMP Nile in Lowdham Grange after a number of men killed themselves because of the disgusting environment in which they were kept by Sodexo. Prison offender managers should be sacked for this type of misconduct. Justice is not a commodity. It is an essential human right. Do not let the minute the Ministry of Justice sell our basic human rights and dignity for profit.
